Using Websites

This unit is for learning how to treat accidents or emergencies.
Everyday, we could be exposed to multiple accidents and what we should know is how to treat them. We could save our lives or somebody else's.

Topic - based lessons plans
Level: 7th graders
Topic: accidents and emergencies
Vocabulary focus: first aid kit, words connected with accidents and emergencies (choking, burns, bruises, bleeding, splinters, CPR, cuts, etc,.)

Place: Classroom and/or Laboratory

Class N° 1:

Warmer
The teacher will start the lesson by asking the students definitions of accidents, emergencies, first aid, types of accidents they might have suffered or gone through.
Possible questions to start the lesson with:
"Do you know what to do in an emergency?"
"What is an accident?"

Then the teacher will give them a picture where they will have to match the pictures with the corresponding word.


 Then the teacher will check the answer with the students.

Web
Now the teacher will provide some webpages where the students can learn how to use the different materials in the first aid kit. They will also have to collect how to use the different materials in the kit in order to share later with the class.
They will work in pairs or small groups.

What next
In this part the teacher will explain to the students what the typical accidents are that they could have such as bleeding, choking, bruises, burns, etc. and how to treat them. Later the teacher will test their knowledge about first aid.
They will work in pairs or small groups.

This is another activity where there are no options to select, that's why the teacher can ask the students whether the statements are correct or incorrect before passing to the next question in order to check the anwsers.

Web
In this part the students will work in pairs or small groups and watch other accidents and emergencies (such as bleeding, burns, cuts, how to put on a bandage, how to bandage a hand, how to make an arm sling, how to remove a splinter) that people might suffer and learn how to treat them.

Then they will choose one accident or emergency and they will take notes to remember how to solve that particular problem.

What nextThis part will take place in the usual classroom.In this part the students will come to the front (in the same groups) in order to make a presentation and role-play different accidents and their corresponding solutions.The teacher will provide the students the necessary materials to perform the presentations and guide the different groups.
